About Us

Rhosneigr SAC is a self supporting diving club , based on the Ty Hen caravan park in Rhosneigr , Anglesey .We currentley have 40+ members and associate’s with a hardcore of 15-20 regular divers. A lot of our members are connected with the holiday industry, so to accommadate them our regular club dives tend to be in the early evening on Thursday and Sunday. Other club diving is arranged on demand.
Our club social life is limited to a visit to the pub after diving, a monthly meeting in a pub October to March, an annual dinner, and the occasional beach barby. We do however do a lot of diving with 50-80 club dives per year.
Club members travel from Merseyside, Cheshire, Gwnydd, and from all over Anglesey to Rhosneigr, mainly because of the quality sites, water, and club equipment.
Bernie and Mona Summerfield, owners of Ty Hen caravan park, were amongst the co-founders of the club in 1976. Bernie is still an active diver, and is the current D.O .
The club concentrates on sea diving, only using the local quarries of North Wales for the first sheltered water dives for trainee’s, and the occasional training exercise. We try to cover the full spectrum of diving from offshore deep wrecks to inshore reefs and sea caves. We have spectacular marine life in our waters, we swim with seals, frequently see dolphins and porpoise, and for foodies, our lobsters and crabs are unsurpassed. When the weather is bad, we have the opportunity, tides allowing, of diving in the Menai straits.
The club chairman, Scot Waterman, is also the skipper of the hardboat Quest, out of Menai Bridge. A number of trips are usually arranged each year to the North coast dive sites with Scot.
The majority of diving is on the South coast of Anglesey, invariably we tow the boats by tractor to the beach at Rhosneigr for launching, a trip of 10 minutes from the club site. We encourage all our members to qualify as BSAC boathandlers through the inbranch SDC’s.
